We recently came across an article in The Atlantic explaining how exercise can be highly effective for mitigating ADHD symptoms in children.

If you’re a parent, you’re probably clued-in to the fact that regular exercise is great for kids (and, of course, adults).

The short term benefits, like improved mood and sleep, are essential for children’s developing minds and bodies. Routine physical activity can also help establish good health habits in the long term, so your kids grow up and continue living a healthy lifestyle.

As if we needed more reasons to get our families off the couch, here’s some great news for families with children who have Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD): exercise helps alleviate symptoms associated with ADHD!

We recently came across an article in The Atlantic that explained how exercise can be highly effective for mitigating ADHD symptoms in children. Sure, we’re a little late to the party- the article came out in 2014- but the evidence still stands.

The article covers a few pieces of scientific literature that explored the connection between exercise and ADHD:

  • A study from the University from Illinois noticed a marked improvement in executive control in children who followed a daily exercise program. Executive control consist of “inhibition (resisting distraction, maintaining focus), working memory, and cognitive flexibility (switching between tasks).”
  • Another study from Michigan State University showed that all children- but most dramatically those with ADHD– had improved math and reading skills after a twelve week exercise program.
  • Finally, a study published in the Journal of Attention Disorders showed that just 26 minutes of exercise a day helped improve symptoms in children with ADHD.

How cool is that?!

This is just one of the reasons we love working with the Ginger Runner! He inspires others to get active by “creating films, reviews, interactive live shows, music and art all inspired by and featuring distance running.” We love showing our support and promoting healthy lifestyles, so we provided one of the prizes for his annual contest, Gingermas! The *very* lucky Gingermas winner received a Pebble package with our 1500mg Hemp Oil, 750mg Softgels, and 250mg Topical.

So let’s all get moving! Go forth and sign up for a soccer league, take a karate class, go on a hike… Whatever your family loves doing.
